The FileMaker Web Viewer as a Javascript Calculation Engine (CSV to JSON example) – SeedCode

GET YOUR THINKING CAP ON before reading this Jason Young’s latest.  Javascript is a robust scripting language with thousands of already written free routines–think of them as custom functions, if you’re having trouble wrapping your head around the concept.  Using the fmp: protocol now available in FileMaker 13v2, developers can harness the power of these free routines and save development time.

Like all good things, though, there is a bit of time involved in getting it set up.  Once done, it will save time–run the scripts in the example file to see how fast it processes 500o records.

There is some overhead in coming up with a framework for loading Javascript libraries into your web viewer, but once you’ve solved that, adding and deploying additional libraries should become as easy as looking up a custom function on the web.
