Finding Empty Fields in Legacy FileMaker Solutions

I’LL ADMIT IT:  I never thought to search for empty fields in a legacy solution.  The guys over at Colibri Solutions did, and figured out an interesting way to find them:

If you ever have to take over a legacy system (as we seem to do often), you may need to determine what fields in a given table in a FileMaker file have no data (null values) in all records. Typically, this is a sign that the fields are not being used and superfluous to an updated solution, and you may be able to exclude these fields from your import field maps.

Be sure to download the example file – the scripts and actions are completely portable.
