FM Server, AWS, The Gig Economy, Standards

Mike Duncan talks about why you should use AWS with a dedicated FileMaker 15 server:

There are also very good reasons you would want a dedicated FileMaker Server to leverage the FileMaker platform to get the most out of it. Server Scheduled scripts, perform script on server functionality, Web Direct and connection access licensing all have an impact on a FileMaker Server. If you want complete control over all these variables, it is best to have your own dedicated server.

All well and good, but the next part of his post shows something pretty amazing:  Using AWS (Amazon Web Services) to create multiple instances (read: servers) of FileMaker server 15 fronted by a load balancer instance that redirects the user to the FileMaker server that is least busy.  And both FileMaker Servers are using a MySQL instance as the source of their data.
