Improving a Service Business, AWS, Seth Godin, and more

How does a custom FileMaker App improve your service business?

One bumper repair company increases monthly billing by $90K, saved almost an hour a day, and paid for it’s custom app in less than 2 months:

Are the most important people in your business out in the field with your customers? Do you waste time emailing, calling, and texting to keep track of where your people are and what they’re doing? Are you frustrated by illegible forms, lost photos, misplaced contracts and hours spent searching for missing information? Our app development platform enables companies like yours to build custom apps that end the need for paper, provide real-time tracking, and connect people in the field to each other and headquarters. With a custom app, your people can track work orders from start to finish, capture and send images and data, and even troubleshoot on the fly.

Seth Godin on “What have we become?”.  His observations:

Every day, we change. We move (slowly) toward the person we’ll end up being.

Not just us, but our organizations. Our political systems. Our culture.

Are you more generous than the you of five or ten years ago? More confident? More willing to explore?

Have you become more brittle? Selfish? Afraid?

Grumpy and bitter isn’t a place we begin. It’s a place we end up.

This may sound a bit trite, but we all are the sum of every choice we have made up to the present.  The smallest change in a decision may result a major change in your life, so thinking before acting is a must.

What do you know about AWS (Amazon Web Services)?

One term I heard over and over at FileMaker DevCon 2016 was AWS.  From backups to servers, from email to scalability, AWS is massive and growing presence in the FileMaker World.  Here are a few examples:

  • FileMaker Server on an AWS Instance
  • Backing up FileMaker to AWS
  • Massive Email on AWS with CloudMail
  • Windows Clients on AWS
  • Load balancing
  • Scalability on demand
  • Databases

There are plenty of products, they are pretty inexpensive, and the interface is improving.  And the tech support is great.

Finally, FileMaker is putting more resources into AWS, and the final products are something FileMaker users will want to use.  Stay tuned.

If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down but the staying down.
